I read this book way back when I was a kid, along with a lot of other Dahl books. Research brought me back to it, and I still liked it. I always liked characters like Sophie and Matilda because they were girls like me going on fantastic adventures. Sophie I like even more because she wore glasses like I do. It's a small thing, but it's nice to feel represented in a book.

A lot of the book is just the two of them talking, which isn't a bad thing because we get to know both of their personalities through the conversations. The body count in this book is actually a little funny now that I'm older. So many people are getting eaten every night. And yet not a single Giant is killed or even permanently hurt at the end. It's interesting. I also like that Dahl couldn't resist sneaking his own name in the book (Dahl Chickens instead of Charles Dickens) and neither could he resist fart jokes.

I could feel my age a little reading some of this, but over all it was nice getting back into Dahl's writing.

My kids loved this! As a read-aloud, I wasn’t a huge fan of it because of all the made-up words and language. I got tired of it quickly. If we ever try this book again, I will get the audio version.

A charming story, and fun to read out loud if you can get your mouth around the higglety pigglety language that Roald Dahl has invented. Fun and exciting moments and you can't help but fall in love with BFG.

One of my favorites as a kid, but definitely not one of Roald Dahl’s best. Only one of my kids was into this book, and the other lost interest.
