It felt good.
This book is so simple but complicated to describe because Haigs writing really is incredible in its approach and style. On the surface this book should be far too cliched for my liking but his writing and the whimsy and nuance to the very simplicity that would deter me is the reason I enjoyed it.
Its like looking in your bathroom mirror for a very long time. Nothing is surprising or new. You've seen it all a million times. You know what to expect. And yet if you stare long and hard and look at each thing there is wonder and somehow your brain can make it new and you can see it in a different way. This book manages to make you stare at those cliches like the meaning of life and do it without being too annoying about it and I really enjoyed it.

I don’t like funny books. I tell myself I don’t like books that involve a character giving up everything for a little love. I don’t think I like books about mathematics, I haven’t picked up many. I did very much enjoy this book, although it’s ‘funny’ and about mathematics, partly.
This book deals with mental illness in a considerate manner. That’s good. It’s full of doubt and dreams. And hope, I think.
The book didn’t restore any hope in humanity I have lost, but it shows that humans can be cute and good and that they are worth thinking and writing about. Made me smile and think and is therefore good.
