The Humans is a beautiful, poignant piece of writing about humanity, and what it means to be human. This is not usually the type of story I read, but I sure am glad I picked it up. Aside from the interesting premise, looking at the world through the lens of an alien life-form was a unique experience. It gave me a weird, fresh outlook on things that I haven't thought about before. It makes you embrace the flaws and mistakes of humanity, and feel a bit of pride in our achievements.
The protagonist's relationship with his "wife" felt somewhat compelling to me, but I was especially touched by how he grew to care for his "son," especially the part wherehe wrote down almost 100 pieces of well-meaning and sometimes eccentric pieces of advice . The ending of the novel was slow and gradual, and gave decent insight into the protagonist's feelings, and how they had come to be.
All in all, this was an entertaining, sentimental read. Sometimes it takes an alien to remind you what it's like to be human.

For me, this book is trying too hard to be funny. It is a bit cringy.

I really enjoyed it! It wasn't spectacular and life altering where it made me think of nothing but it for days after, but it was enjoyable. While listening to it I was all into what's happening, and looking forward to the next crazy thing the character was thinking/doing. It was like listening to some weird self-help tape from someone who literally just landed on earth. And it was so dark at some points. I checked it out because I really enjoyed The Midnight Library so I'm happy to see Haig is a go-to author when I'm looking for a good time.
