In which Charles Dickens gets creative burnout so Jack and Annie make him think he’s hallucinating so he’ll keep writing. 10/10
I usually rate these books a 3... I mean, the writing isn't spectacular and the stories are a bit formulaic, but they work well to introduce young children to history and other cultures. The early ones were an easy bedtime read. The later ones have gotten longer and longer, and my 4.5 year old bailed on this particular one when we were maybe halfway through. It was wasn't moving very fast and it wasn't all that interesting to her.
Eleanor says: There were three ghosts. Annie has to pretend to be a boy because she couldn’t go around like Jack. Charles Dickens wanted to write but sometimes it was hard. Annie and Jack helped him see the visions of the ghosts. I would’ve been worried if I didn’t have any money. If people were poor, other people would yell at them, but if people were rich then others were nice to them. This isn’t fair. We should be kind to everybody.
Jack and Annie help Charles Dickens. This is the end of a four-book cluster. What will Merlin's next challenge be?
Cozy and nostalgic. I love the Magic Treehouse books, and this one was the perfect Christmas Eve read!

Jack and Annie have been favorite characters of mine since my own children were small. This volume is sweet with Jack and Annie traveling to Victorian England to help Charles Dickens write "A Christmas Carol."

Magic Tree house books are a good starting point to learn about diverse topics. My son liked them when he was younger. I read this with my mom for something fun and easy for Christmas since it was about Charles Dickens and we had just read "A Christmas Carol"
Listened to this as an audiobook. It was a fun read and I loved the historical elements around Charles Dickens!
