Nothing is okay after this book. Cassandra Clare has never done anything like this before. Amazing. Heart wrenching. I've been reading these books since there was only one book. It's been beautiful watching Clare grow within her writing. Saying that you'd think I'd expect what was coming but damn. She keeps blowing me away.
I may have to forget this book ever existed in order to survive 2 years of not knowing what is going to happen. Actually makes me want to cry.

4.5
this book was a rollercoaster, honestly. i liked how this book focused on more of the individuality of the blackthorns and those who surround them, especially getting to know more of the stories of ty, kit, diana, and kieran. I'm still unsure whether or not i ship emma and julien still, because of the whole friends-to-lovers thing. however, i am quite enjoying mark, cristina, and kieran though. i also really loved all the little tie backs to TID in this book (i missed jessamine sososo much and the comment about tessa and will really broke me).

although it was hard to picture a faerie world in a cassie clare book, the time spent in faerie was quite enjoyable (seeing as I'm currently missing cardan--oof).Spoiler

9 HOURS AFTER READING THE BOOK
Hello fellow readers, as you can clearly see i’m back and im emotionally stable now. sorta. The review I wrote yesterday was right after i finished reading the dang book, my eyes were blurry, it was dark outside and with that ending of LOS i couldn’t handled it so i vented. NOW i’m back with a proper review.
I absolutely love this book. This was so much better than Lady Midnight, with Lady Midnight I was just wasnt into it as much as LoS. Here in LOS Cassandra gave the characters a makeover, or that was what it felt like while reading the book. I fell inlove with each, individual characters in this book. And surprisingly i fell inlove with Jules. I can swear on the angel that in the first book, i found him boring and obnoxious and idk but it felt like in LM we didn’t see much of his personality. But noW FINALLY in LoS godamnit Julian is probably my favourite character yet. To see how he tries “overcome” his feelings for Emma like i am so proud.
I REALLY CANT KEEP WRITING THIS REVIEW WITHOUT SPOILING ANYTHING. JUST IN CONCLUSION, read this book. IF YOU FOUND LM boring just give this book a chance because I promise you that it’s a wild ride from start to finish. I love this book SO MUCH. please read
1 MINUTE AFTER THE BOOK ENDED

3.5 stars
I'll admit, I was relatively bored by Lord of Shadows for the majority of it. I would probably really like it if it weren't for Emma and Julien; their romance is just so angsty and annoying and tbh it completely ruined the book for me. I absolutely love Mark, Kieran, and Christina. Ty, Livvy, and Kit were pretty ok. Diana and Gwyn stole my heart <3 But then it switches to Julien or Emma and the whole chapter is just them pining after each other instead of focusing on all the dangerous shit that's happening around them and I get mad. I like them both as individual characters, especially Julien and his fierce love for his family, but the second he looks at Emma he completely loses me. So because of those two, this book went from a 4.5 to a 3.5 It would have been 3 but THAT ENDING THOUGH. WHAT. OH MY GOD ??? I'm really glad I ordered Lord of Shadows and Queen of Air and Darkness at the same time because I need to read the next book like right now

Lord of Shadows is book two of the Dark Artifices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare, an author that I go back and forth with constantly.
I love some of her books (The Infernal Devices Trilogy), I don’t love some of her books (Lady Midnight, City of Fallen Angels). It’s a complicated relationship. I feel like for most of her books, I’m only halfway on for the ride, and then towards the end, I’m slammed with a good, intriguing ending and then I’m hooked, so I go to the next book, and it’s the same cycle over and over (again, except for The Infernal Devices, that just is a whole different magical moment).
I did enjoy Lord of Shadows more than I did Lady Midnight, for sure. Now that the characters are more established, I found the story to flow a bit better.
However.
This book is *massive*. Too massive, for the plot that it contains. I think this could have easily been condensed and tightened up, and been for a better reading experience.
But I’ll still say, even with it’s massiveness, I still enjoyed it. I listened to this almost entirely (95%) on Audiobook on my drive to and from work, and by the end, I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend.
I think if you thought Lady Midnight was just okay, and like me, were considering whether to continue with the series or not, I’d say go for it. I do think it’s worth the read if you like this world and the characters.
