Well paced, never too slow or too fast, keeps you reading and excited.
The story of the series is expanding and evolving quite naturally.
It feels very cohesive and thought out - I love how a minor thing casually mentioned in the beginning makes a surprising appearance towards the end.

Uuuuugh, I love the books and the stories and the characters and the suspension but.. Anne is sooo annoying. I get where she is coming from but she is just sooo self-righteous. I am really excited to see how everything will turn out for Alex in the next book though.

Another excellent Alex Verus adventure, in which he crashes a blackmage party, gives an animal a pitch talk and amazes with his unique abilities: Talking, Scrying and Running. Fighting too, on occasion.
I loved the House MD reference in this one. Aaand...
