I hate and love this book all at the same time. The ending was far from what I expected or wanted!!! But that's the beauty of a book. To build up and destroy and make me love characters that I don’t want to see get hurt. I really did not like that ending, but I understood the reasoning for it. In a couple of places, I felt the story drag and that too many words were used when only a few would have sufficed. I struggled hard with those places. But the characters were great. My heart hurts for Leto. I feel she lost so much and didn't get anything for her troubles.

This was a beautiful story, I could not put it down. Am I the only one that cried at the end?
Yes, she has based it on one part of Greek mythology but I feel that it is just a love story.
Really enjoyed it.

- I really liked the ending
- the writing didn't make it feel like a book based on and set around Greek mythology even though the plot obviously revolved around it

This book was one of those I powered through just so I wouldn’t DNF. The story was OK, the characters were underwhelming and the lack of world building was a struggle.
There are three POVs and I can appreciate that with them we understand a little more about the secondary characters but it seems they are just an afterthought instead of living in this world.
There is no depth to anyone apart for the main three protagonists. Why are they always angry? Why are they doing what they are doing? Just to advance the plot? Sure…
Textually is beautifully written but I can’t stop thinking this book is the equivalent of “the meeting that could have been an email”. It is just long for the sake of extending the reading.
I will put my two senses into the whole “retelling of the Odyssey and not reading it” that has been going around. I don’t care if it is a retelling. It should be good and explain the universe enough to be a good read for anyone who is not going to put in the work of reading something else to understand a book.
I have not read it and I don’t believe you have to read something else to enjoy a book. It might help but as it is the case with Song of Achilles, I haven’t read the mythology behind and I enjoyed the book because it painted a picture of the world, the war and the characters were complex and had depth.

First, let me tell you that I am not hard to please in my books, especially when it comes to Greek mythology before I explaine what this book was for me. I am easy to please. Give me a plot, some twists and turns and I am happy.
The beginning of the story was great. There was action there, there was progression in the story and it was exciting. Unfortunately after only a couple chapters the pace went into the negatives and it felt that there was no progression. A lot of words with little to say. I tried so hard to like this story, I really did. But it was so demotivating about how little shit progressed and it felt like I was stuck in a story that was paused.
The thing that bothered me as well was the way that it was not accurate at all. The writer had written something and then it would change, so no real consistancy whatsoever. And even though I went in open minded about it not being a retelling as was stated before the release, but a story loosely based on said mythology, it was so damn hard.
I wanted to love this book so bad and the cover art is amazing, but unfortunately I judged the book by it's cover and it came around and bit me in the butt.
I did end up reading a summary per chapter and I cannot say I missed out on stuff.
