Fast, fun read that will keep you guessing!

In true Poirot fashion (from the AC books I read so far), the reader only gets breadcrumbs throughout the book and learns the whole story behind the crime in a sit-down session with Hercule, who lays it all out for you in retelling. I personally enjoy this structure, different from more modern day thrillers/crime!

Interesting in this book: The way female characters are portrayed in this book! Some in a strong/progressive, some in a tradional/cliché manner. Made me chuckle a few times, since this is after all written by a successful female author

If truth be told, I cannot lie to you. This surprisingly dull offering had too many things going against it. For once I didn't appreciate the translation.

Maybe the original had a lot of expressions, because the French version had an overabundance of them. Most of the buildup to the finale was lackluster.

I have given Agatha Christie books 5 stars, but also 2 stars as well. There hasn't been one author who has captivated my respect so completely that I'd always rate them high scores. Except for maybe C.S. Lewis, but then I haven't touched his non fiction books.

2.5 stars

Unfortunately, it must be one of my least favourites of Agatha Christie's novels. I did really enjoy the setting, as I was actually currently staying near the sea on holidays, the atmosphere was so well-written. Also special shout out for the place I'm staying at/my other home that was mentioned twice (!!). In that sense, I do think it's a good thing to pick it up during summer holidays. The setting on a small island also reminded me a little of And Then There Were None (my favourite Christie), so that was nice. However, I truly didn't like the way the author "used" her female characters sometimes, whether it was the remarks about bodies during sunbathing, putting women against each other in general or ruining a good character at the very end (I just don't get it). I wasn't a huge fan of the resolution either, I can't explain why, but it seemed a bit too much. A bit of a bummer that I wasn't a huge fan of that one, but hopefully I'll enjoy my next Agatha Christie!
