What a great Poirot mystery!
I love this one and fondly remember watching the David Suchet adaptation. It is set on a fictionalised version of Burgh Island in Devon - a place I have visited a couple of times and remember enjoying.

As always, Poirot was very entertaining and kept me guessing throughout! I couldn’t remember the ending so was kept hooked and (as per usual) had no idea who the killer was. I liked some of the themes in this one, especially the ideas around a “scarlett woman” or “seductress” - it was an interesting look at gender relations during Christie’s life.

Despite the murder, it made me want a holiday and a break at a lovely spot in Devon. Christie writes her settings so well and this had some fascinating characters. Definitely worth a read and I really enjoyed it.

The perfect murder mystery to read while on vacation.

This time, we follow Hercule Poirot on his holidays, where he can’t get a minute of peace and quiet, without someone being murdered. How inconsiderate of them to get killed during the poor man’s vacation.

The story takes place on an island resort, leaving us with a limited number of suspects. The most annoying and petty person among them is murdered in strange conditions, while everyone has a strong alibi and most of them have motives to kill.

The story is written in the usual style of Agatha Christie. While not one of the best novels of hers, it still follows an interesting mystery with twists and turns, proving a light reading, perfect for a day at the beach. *** 1/2 stars.

I don’t like black and white characters, therefore was hoping that the person who was murdered had some layers and depth to them. With nearly everyone hating them, it had the opposite effect on me, as I felt that they could be misunderstood. Not that anything could excuse their actions but I still sensed how alienated they must have felt from other people of their sex and was just sympathetic towards them.

Now on to the mystery. I knew that it couldn’t be the obvious suspects but still found myself shocked by the the who and the how and just didn’t see that coming at all. The way Agatha’s mind works is incredible really in a very unexpected and hair-rising way. I can’t wait to read more from her.

An intriguing and fast paced murder mystery from The Queen of Crime herself, Agatha Christie. The book gets you hooked from page one. It has all the elements of an Agatha Christie book. The process of investigation in this book doesn't take time like her other works. The ending was a total shocker.
