It was nice entertainment on the drive to and from work for the past 3 days. It was a simple story and I enjoyed it for what it was; I could see myself (with more free time) having instead snuggled up with it as a physical book on a weekend and enjoyed it as both quirky fiction and Japanese social commentary. I think because I’ve read other fictions about social pressure to be married and have kids towards japenese women, this one didn’t really stand out to me because of it’s simplicity and brevity, but it was by no means a bad book and I’m glad I finally got to check it off my list <3.

This was brief and weird and unlike anything I’ve ever read before, but I actually really loved it. I think people who don’t like this book try and attach too much metaphor and meaning to it, when to me it felt like just a sweet story about finding contentment in whatever way you want to. I love that it is totally in opposition to the idea that grinding, being super ambitious, and doing whatever everyone else is doing is the way to find success. I also enjoy that it really dives into what success is- is it not just finding happiness, which the narrator feels while working at the convenience store? I think it is.

i really loved the beginning of this book. i loved reading about keiko's life and her thoughts. but when shiraha introduced, my interest kind of dipped and it was a bit challenging to keep on reading because of how much i hate his character. idc what he's going through i will never have sympathy for an incel misogynist jobless man. all i can remember upon closing the book was how absolutely i hated him.

What a weird story that I could not put down. I was totally invested in the main character’s odd little life and the choices she made. Her thought process is so interesting and gives such insight into all the unusual people in one’s life. It made me think differently about these unique people we all meet and how we view them and their choices as not valid and therefore non-valid people. Will be searching out more by this author.
