Loved every moment of this book. I must say, that I was surprised with this book. I thought I would be reading a completely different book. I started reading after I saw that it was on the shortlist for my online book club; I read it in a single sitting. I I don't want to give it away, but you have to fall in love with Mili. While she is a very intelligent woman, she is very traditional and nostalgic; she holds fast to her beliefs and is truly a good person. Samir is also a good person but so conflicted with what and who he is. These two people needed each other in a way that is not apparent until nearly the end.
Western readers are invited into Indian culture but no translations are needed. The cultural references are seamless and are just enough to intrigue and delight but not enough that you feel left out. Truly a wonderful book and thoroughly enjoyed.

Cheesy, quick read. Felt like I was reading a Karan Johar movie, which isn't always a bad thing.

a quick read

The story didn’t seem all that original to me but it was well executed, kept my attention, and was a quick read. Loved Mili’s character and her perseverance even when fate handed her such a shitty hand.

It was a decent light distraction

I laughed. I cried. A wonderful book!

Yes, this one is cute. I love the drama (although it's not really new). I figure I could put this novel to 'guilty-pleasure' shelf (if I have one) xD

And now I'm moving in to The Bollywood Bride

Good set-up, some very fun business (the wedding was very entertaining), but I really didn't like the Bollywood playboy/childlike virgin characterization. It was just uncomfortable.

3.5 stars. Rating this book was so complicated.

For the first half plus of this book, I found it kind of frustrating. Honestly, neither Mili nor Samir were that likeable or relatable for me (full acknowledgement that I may not be the target audience to find them relateable). Then it felt like the book was going on for too long. I think there were too many conflicts, something I don't think I've ever said before. However, the last 15% of the story really got to me and hit all the emotional notes I was hoping for.

Enjoyable romance novel! The building tension was PERFECT and I just kept waiting for any of the many possible shoes to drop. I also found myself looking up different foods/clothes/aspects of Indian culture as I read to learn more about the context of the novel. Wonderfully written chemistry and banter between Mili and Samir as well! Looking forward to reading others by Sonali Dev!

super, super, SUPER cheesy and over-the-top but charming nonetheless?
