I am not typically a reader of mystery novels, but I thought I'd take on a classic. It was fun! I was excited to hear (read) what would happen next. The central young folks are charming personalities. The political intrigue is explained on a level that I can understand. The action is a bit melodramatic, and not all of it makes sense, but it has a cinematic quality. The 1920s dialogue is fun, too. And, merciful to me, the central crime is not a murder.

The main flaw is that i figured out the identity of the Secret Adversary about halfway through the book, and the characters seemed foolish for not also doing so. That was so annoying that it's turned me off from her novels, at least for now. Also, the naivete of the young woman investigator is a bit sad, and there are some pretty cheesy elements. Maybe that was appropriate for the time of publication? I don't know.

I really couldn't put it down, but I don't think I'll pick up another Christie novel anytime soon.

Estória divertida, primeira dos personagens Tommy e Tuppence. Agitada e várias reviravoltas.

One of my favorite Christie novels. Review to come.

4.5/5

This one was really different for Agatha Christie. I’ve read quite a few of her books and they’ve always been whodunnits, so it was really interesting to see her tackle espionage instead. The story was solid and the characters were really endearing. The only thing that got me was that I normally can’t predict the outcomes of her books but the big reveal in this one was fairly obvious and I saw it coming from close to the beginning. But it still wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. Can’t wait to read more Tommy and Tuppence.

4 T&T Stars...!!

Always love a good Agatha Christie book...!! She makes crime fun(I don't want to analyse my psyche over that sentence...;))

And one can't help but love Tommy and Tuppence's dry wit...!!
