The second book in the series and I very much enjoyed it just as much as the first one.
Secret at Skull House continues the adventures of Ellery in Pirate's Cove. And he somehow manages to become the main suspect of another murder.
The beauty of these books lies in the cosy small town vibes and the wonderful writing. I listened to the audio, and I could barely put I down. I was very invested in the outcome from the first moment.
I wished the grand finale was a it more lengthy. I t was a it sudden and maybe the explanation a bit harried. While I got to the solution along with Ellery, a bit more detail into the past would've been nice.
Ellery and Jack's relationship is the slowest of slow burns, which is just sweet. It kinda feels like I'm watching a mystery series with the easy enjoyment and the angsty relationship.
Anyway, I'm sorry the rest of the series is not available on audio yet. But that won't stop me from reading the next book.

I was a little worried this book would be something of a sophomore slump, simply because “Murder at Pirates Cove” was so perfect it was hard to imagine anything meeting the bar it set, but this second installment was genuinely JUST as good as the first. I love Ellery, I love Jack, I love every single person in this town. “Secrets and Scrabble” is everything I have ever wanted out of a Queer Cozy Mystery series, I am officially obsessed.
4.5
Gotta love a good cozy mystery. Ellery is once again in the middle of a murder and feels he needs to clear his name. Of course the local hot sheriff believes him, but the evidence is a lot. And of course Ellery really likes the local sheriff, whom it seems, likes him back. I love these two and look forward to their eventual relationship, they’re too good not to eventually make it!
As for the mystery, I really enjoy how Lanyon crafts her mysteries. I had an inkling of who the murderer was, but I loved how she had them confess everything when they thought they’d get away with it. Brilliantly done.
The eccentric cast of characters that inhabit the town, the history of the town itself, Pirates!, Ellery’s puppy!, and the humor throughout the cozy just make it such a fluffy and great little read. Plus, the occasional and appropriate spookiness is also well done, it is a murder mystery in the end.

This book hit all those important mystery notes for me.
There were twists and turns, quirky characters and a lovely dog.
Poor Ellery can’t catch a break. He’s accused again, reputation is in tatters and of course the police aren’t helping.
I love this series. It’s lighthearted and sweet. One gobbles the book trying to find the clues and see if you’d get the killer. I did not get the killer.
I highly recommend this book if you want to sit and solve a mystery.
I received an ARC for my honest review

These are enjoyable, quick reads for when I’m in the mood for a cozy mystery—sort of like a gay episode of Murder She Wrote. I’m sure I’ll read more of them eventually.
3,5 still as good. This series is very light-hearted, the very definition of a cosy mystery. Ellery moved on this island, where nothing used to happen, 2 months ago and 3 murders already occurred. There are 8 books. That man is cursed
