The art in this is beautiful and I feel like it made my emotions much more heavy than when I read the novel by Lois Lowry. Out of all this, I've just glad that this story still grips me.

3.5 Stars
I've read this book once before in middle school and I forgot how fast-paced the book was. I had to read it this time for my YA Literature class, and I enjoyed it a lot. I love dystopian novels and this one is one of the better ones. The history of the world is lacking in this one, but if I remember correctly it gets explained more in the sequel. I forgot a lot of small details, so it was almost like reading for the first time this go around!

I’ve read it countless times before but was yearning for something familiar. One of my favorite books of all time for sure !

This was a great, thought-provoking read. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars was that my logic-oriented brain couldn't wrap my head around some of the supernatural aspects: WHY couldn't they see in color? HOW did he get the memory that turned out to be a future event? I just felt that there were a few loose threads I would have liked tied up more clearly/neatly. I listened to the book, and the reader was good.

I had forgotten how deeply disturbing The Giver is and this graphic novel version doesn't shy away from telling about how bleak and terrifying it can be to live in "sameness."

Amazingly done. Grades 6 and up.

I read this book as a child and loved it very much. Every time I read it, I discover new things to love. The ideas in this book, and the book itself, spring to mind when I least expect it. I had forgotten the ambiguity in the ending and still have no concrete opinion on its meaning. Which I appreciate, as it allows me to come back to it again and again. And, of course, "back and back and back".

Riveting and thought provoking.

second time reading this & i literally cannot decide if at the end there was really a house or if he was hallucinating it because they were ab to die... :(
