This is the second book I've read by Blake Crouch, and I loved it! I blew through it in just a couple of days.

It was okay...it took lots of turns that’s for sure. Honestly, I was hoped for some serious paranormal stuffs.

I really love Blake Crouch's books and this was no exception. I stayed up until 2am reading it and that hasn't happened for years!

I enjoyed the plot and found it hard to put down. I found myself thinking about the people in the mine after I'd finished it. I think a lot of similar books would have ended when the protagonist got back to the town but I really appreciated that the loose ends were tied up.

A page-turner that kept me up into the week hours of the night. This is a hard one to put down but it isn't quite what I was expecting given the blurb. A good read with some thoroughly amazing characters. Gloria and Lana will stay with me for a long time to come. Even Joss, for her many flaws. There are two story lines in this novel (something I love). One is set in 1893, the other in the present.
I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline in the past, the present not so much. I couldn't connect with most of the characters in the present. Very little emotional bond there if at all, but so many of the characters in the past struck a strong chord. I do, however wonder if I'm the only reader who missed the "recently, a similar party had also attempted to explore the town and was never heard from again" thread felt it was missed or glossed over????

Really great thriller, lots of tension and twists and turns in the plot right to the end. The only things that got me a little tired was that there was just a lot of relentless terrible things happening to the protagonist, Abi and after a while I just wanted something to go right for her! And the ending seemed to be over a bit quickly and not entirely satisfactorily (for me) given the huge build up throughout the novel. It was a really interesting story, and I liked the way you flip between 1809 and 2009 and the gaps are slowly filled in.

Very gripping story told in parallel between the past and the present.

Audiobook notes - the narrator did a fine job with voices and pronunciations, but hearing his intake at each breath got old rather quickly. Surprised that the audio engineer didn't take care of that.

Such a depressing story

This was not what I expected and so I ended up disappointed. I thought it was going to have a different vibe than it ended up having, and I just wasn’t ever on the edge of my seat like I was reading Pines, Dark Matter, and Recursion
