Just plain delightful and heart-warming. I have always been a Herriot fan, so this collection of stories devoted to a few remarkable cats was an absolute delight to read! This particular edition was accompanied by some lovely watercolor illustrations, as soft and sweet as the kitties themselves :) It's basically a feel-good read for when you need a pick-me-up. You'll be grinning from ear to ear each page you turn.

I rarely go near books about animals. Not because I don't like animals, heck no! In fact, I am occasionally (jokingly I hope) called a crazy cat lady. No, the reason I stay far, far away from books about animals is this: I cannot deal with animal death.
No, seriously. Kill off the main (humanoid) character? I'll cry and whine, but I'll still love the book. Kill off an animal, I check out. Game over.
So a collection of real life stories from a vet made me extremely nervous. But I was curious so I did it.
And there are some sad parts, but I found myself still enjoying the stories. It's clear that while James Herriot has a more solid stomach than I do, he was still clearly operating with the same amount of love for cats that I feel and it made the stories really worth it.

Fun cat stories from James Herriot. I love his writing style and the stories are so cozy--they make me wish we had a cat.

After reading a book about the aftermath and consequence of having a son confess to murdering his flatmate, I just had to grab a sweet, soft book -- and this one hit the mark. I had never read Herriot and just loved this slim gem of a book. His cat stories and simple but not simplistic, poignant without being sappy. I'll have to look for some of his other work.
