Could not connect with this style of writing.

Thoroughly enjoyable book. Obviously a bit silly at times and a bit outdated, but overall a pretty good tale. And I enjoyed the discussion of Paris' architecture in the 15th century because I love Gothic architecture. The theme according to Hugo is "the book shall replace the edifice" as far as I can tell but I'm pretty sure the real theme is "men ain't shit" lol. Unless they're Quasimodo and then they're tragic instead.

So I didn't hate this, but I definitely didn't love it either. And to be honest it's probably more like 2.5 stars.

Some of the writing is really lovely and the story itself is quite entertaining. But there is just SOOO much filler, so many pages of unimportant stuff - description, historical information, latin (oh the latin and constantly flipping to the back for the footnote got really tiring!)
