These books are just a lot of fun. By this point, you know what you're getting into - group of plucky chefs fighting demons and other supernaturals all in the guise of catering big events. Book 4 is no different. Some new elements to the world are added, some callbacks are made, some characters exhibit some growth, all of it written in a clear, straight-forward, easy-to-read manner that makes this series perfect for un-stressed light reading. Highly recommended.

It was okay, nothing special. The story was easy and not that creepy as usual. Quite boring.

Endiselt väga lustakas sari ja pahandab juba nagu "Saga", et kohe järgmist osa ei saa.
Yldisele lugemusele teeb kahju sellega, et paneb keset kallist lugemisaega "Buffyt" yle vaatama.

Actual rating 3.5.

If you've made it this far in the Sin du Jour series, you know what to expect. "Idle Ingredients" does what the series does best. Quick-paced action, bizarre scenarios, laugh-out-loud dialogue, and deus-ex-machina-style solutions that work because, hey, it's fantasy! Of course there are convenient rules and fixes that exist without prior reader knowledge or backstory. You even see some character development in this one, as Lena, Darren, and Bronco all quietly acknowledge the stakes they're dealing with in the long term (a result of the fallout from the previous book), and the ways they need to change in order to deal with them. A fun, quick read for when you want to be taken on a ride without thinking too hard.

Once again, I'm in love with the characters and world Wallace has created. Few authors make me go "Damn that's a great metaphor" like he does!

A bit light on action and a bit too heavy on relationship drama. Some character 'growth' felt unnatural and ham-fisted. But props for a gay relationship going somewhere.

Quick review: This is kind of a "catch your breath" installment in this series, but you'll only get a little respite. As the crew shakes off the disaster of the last hellish attack, a new, subtle danger threatens the solidarity of the kitchen. This book does a lot of moving the story along and building up to a larger conflict that (hopefully) will come to a head in Greedy Pigs. It spends a lot of time on the crew and their relationships to each other. IMO, it's not a standout in the series, but it does add some major plot points in the larger arc, so don't skip it.

Great addition to the series. A little slow at parts, but I still really enjoyed it. Excited to read book 5!
