I read this book first in middle school and loved it a lot back then. Now it's still fine and enjoyable: the push and pull of continuity was easily parsed by a younger me and I respect this book for getting that through my melon head. Being older the whole "love and loss in one breath" shtick gets me more. Shoutout to Swedish sacrifice stories and Carl Larsson.
I couldn't put this down, and started re-reading the minute I finished. OK, even before that :-)
My sweet friend Lis is always giving me books that are completely different than anything else I’ve read and they are always good. Midwinterblood is almost difficult to explain with its intricately woven story. But it packs a punch I ended up thinking about for days.
I never quite knew what the next chapter was going to hold or how the characters were going to be thrown together again. While the story meandered in different eras the way the timeline fit seamlessly together created an easy and smooth reading experience.
Overall, 4 stars for me! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Several characters live several lives throughout the years. All are horrific and grotesque. Not a fan.
The way the stories weave together engages the reader wonderfully. Definitely for older teens.
