Dark Days is the second book in the Apocalypse Z series. I never read the first book but it was easy to quickly piece together the whole story. I picked up this book because one of my current obsessions is ...zombies. Well I did get zombies but not as much as I expected. I was expecting the zombies to be gruesome and in your face. They were not. In fact, I kind of found them tame and boring. Not what you want to hear from a zombie book. Reason...if the zombies are not somewhat scary or original then what is the point of reading the book or being scared of them.

On the other hand, while I had not read the first book, I found that this was more character driven of a story and did connect with all the characters. This is not always a easy goal, especially if you are like me and have not read the first book. It sometimes takes me almost the whole book just to connect with the characters let alone all of them. Besides my complaint about the zombies, my only other complaint is about the lack of action. The story started out strong and stayed that way for a while but then in the middle it started to fade and the ending was fine but not a big battle or anything to write home about. Just a good ending to the story.

I enjoyed this one more than the first but I'm still somewhat disappointed in lack of character development. I suppose I should not expect this from the zombie genre.

More Zombies and more challenges for our group of intrepid survivors. And one cat.
