A fun beginning to a new cozy mystery series featuring Kat Stanford. Once her mom abandons London and their plans for an antique toy store, Kat ends up in Devon, mixed up in a family brouhaha over keeping an old estate intact. Murder and mayhem ensue. Looking forward to the next installment.
I randomly picked this up at the library, not expecting much, and really enjoyed it. The characters were funny and it was a good read. The mystery was secondary to the characters, but the best mysteries are that way.
Despite my love for murder mysteries and creepy English manors, this book was insanely bland with annoying characters and a semi-nonsensical plot.
If I hadn't been reading this for a book challenge I would have abandoned it, the lead character is extremely annoying, of all the characters that appear in the book she should have been the one that was murdered. The only good thing I can say about this book is that it was a quick read, I won't be rushing to read any more of this series.

I really enjoyed reading this cozy mystery. I would love to visit England, and this cozy let me do that because it had such great descriptions of the English countryside. I enjoyed reading about Kat and her somewhat eccentric mother, Iris, who has a couple secrets that she is hiding. It seems Kat has a lot of different mysteries to figure out in this page turner. I was kept thoroughly entertained throughout this book, not only by the mystery but by the many quirky characters that inhabit Honeychurch Hall and the town of Little Dipperton in the Devon countryside. I hope to visit this charming hamlet again soon, great job Hannah.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review.

I kept wanting to like this more as I was reading it. I am a big fan of cozies that are packed to the brim with strange characters, and this has some good ones. I do like the two main characters, but I hate reading about them interacting with each other. Reading it feels like being trapped in the room with two bickering people. Everything gets wrapped up very abruptly. The murder itself is almost more of a secondary plot, so the main plot gets resolved almost entirely off-screen. Even for the first book in a series, it takes a long time to get to the murder. There was enough promising here that I still looked at the rest of the books in the series to see if they might be more of my cup of tea. I don't think they are and that I'm probably done with this series, but I would definitely still consider reading something else from this author.
