I liked this one a lot! There are bits and pieces that I've seen in other books, but what I really like is just when you think it's going a certain direction, it doesn't go the way you think it will. Ifueko leans on storytelling and music as a theme, and it works really really well.

While this novel did have many moments of darkness, I felt like the (successful) friendships made this book so warm and wholesome.
The themes of identity, power and the creation of a nation (essentially politics) were excellent and I valued reading the messages that Ifueko included in this novel. One being "Uniformity is not unity. Silence is not peace". While this message is not new to me, I think the intended audience (young adults/teens) could really grasp the themes and messages of this novel and love it.
It is action packed and full of exciting twists. I liked the central characters (Tarisai, Sanjeet, Kirah and Dayo) and their interactions, although I would have liked to get to know the rest of the eleven a bit better. This novel (while having romance) is not romance heavy. I loved that the relationships (between all the characters) took precedent over the romances or were the most important part of the romances. If that makes sense. I thoroughly enjoyed much of this novel and I'm excited for the next one!

Absolutely incredible. I don't honestly have a lot to say about the book, because it was just... GOOD. Wonderful characters, worldbuilding, descriptions... I don't know, man. I just thoroughly enjoyed myself the whole way through.
