Gender as it functions today is a grave injustice. I am angry. We should all be angry. Anger has a long history of bringing about positive change. But I am also hopeful, because I believe deeply in the ability of human beings to remake themselves for the better.

simply beautiful. everyone go read this.

5 stars 🌟 Such a simple, yet beautifully written essay adapted from Adichie's TED talk. Not only does she criticize the strict gender structures of our society, rightfully so, but she does something that I find is often missing from essays/scholarly articles on gender. Adichie offers solutions, and real-life ones at that. While they are straightforward solutions in theory, they aren't exactly 'easy' to implement in our current state. At only 45(ish) pages, I wish everyone would read this to start working on those solutions asap. 100% recommend!

Good. It didn’t make any new points. Interesting for those who are dipping their toe in to the water of equality. I like her spoken word and written word style.

life-changing. I think I need to wake up and read this everyday. "Culture does not make people, people make culture."

We should all read this book. This book is important.

This is for everyone who is new to concept of feminism or wants to understand from a woman's perspective.
When the author talks about gender, she does it in a lot of binaries though and is very cis-centric.

It's pretty short and concise. You can watch her ted talk instead also, it has the same material.
