Pros
- I enjoyed the hopeful ending of the book.
- The book gave some well needed background into many of the characters, so I was rarely left confused or questioning their intentions or why they were behaving a certain way.
- Almost every character is flawed in some way, making them more human.
- The descriptions of luxury and extreme wealth were really fun to read and learn about, it felt like a guilty pleasure.
Cons
• Nick completely set up Rachel for failure by not preparing her at all for meeting the family or the trip. He wasn't really thinking about marrying her, despite knowing the implications of bringing her to the wedding.
• Rachel is so painfully naive and honestly, a bit stupid, throughout the vast majority of the book. Despite bring told to be very careful when meeting the family, she is so irritably nonchalant throughout the whole ordeal.
• I don't really feel Nick and Rachel have much chemistry until the ending.
• Rachel doesn't get mad at Nick for setting her up for complete failure until 80% of the book is done.
• Rachel is Asian American from California and living in NYC, so why is she in Singapore acting like she grew up on a cornfield in middle-of-nowhere Wyoming? She's grown up around Chinese-Americans her entire life, I really don't know why she's bumbling around most of the time.

Just kind of boring. I'd rather just watch the movie.

i really liked this book, so much i even bought the next one BUT... there are some flaws. for example the characters, i don't really like that many of the characters and it was VERY hard to keep up with all the names, backstories, what family they were from, etc.
but setting that all aside it was a solid story and i enjoyed reading it!

Now I know why this book so famous. Well yeah, this book is good. So entertaining.
So many richy-vocabulary brands and names that I actually don't know and make me must search in Google. For real.
I do love how Nicky is. He just so human. Well what you expected from born-rich-boy.
I do love Rachel as much as I love Nicky. I like how she put herself. But then I kinda disappointed with her in the end because what she think about her mother.
Actually I love all the characters in this book. Even the bad characters. Actually they not bad, they just being them.Especially Eddie, LOL don't know why I always laugh when reading about him. He just so funny about himself being the number one. The funniest part about him is when he scream that he is the best friend of Colin not Alistair. Hahaha even now I still laughing.
Still so many things unfinished in the book, so here I am, ready to read the second book!!!

I watched the movie first but still really liked the book. I enjoyed how it went deeper into Peranakan culture and backstories
