I read this for my son’s battle of the books. I really enjoyed it. I loved the old stories within the story. And I loved the theme of the book. Great message for everyone to read.

This sweet book reads like a fable and is full of Minli's fantastic adventures! Folktales and legends of the world are sprinkled through out the book, only adding to it's charm.

Story after story after story

Maggie and I read this together this week. I could not put it down and was so touched by many of the folk tales woven through the main story that I kept Benji up late last night talking about folk tales from our heritage and our upbringing. This was a great read that emphasizes the importance of family, loyalty, hard work, integrity, and gratitude. Highly recommend for a read aloud.

This was such a great middle-grade read! I loved how the story was interwoven with traditional Chinese folktales and taught so many valuable moral truths. Minli was endearing, and I loved her friendship with Dragon! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Juliette gave it 655 stars, Jackson gave it 55,000.
The illustrations were GORGEOUS!! Like illuminated woodcuts. The story was so good — folding in and weaving in and out of itself and finally wrapping up into a big bow at the end. I especially loved the life lessons imparted throughout. My only complaint is that we didn’t have a conclusion to Magistrate Tiger but maybe he pops up in the other novels?
I look forward to reading other Lin works! If they are anything like this book, we are all in for a great treat!

Amazing

Rich descriptions! Fun and well developed characters. My 10 year old son was as enthralled as my 7 year old daughter. This book is a treasure. I plan to purchase a hard copy.

I really enjoyed listening to this book with my 6 year old. It's a beautifully told story in the style of a Chinese folk tale, with a young female hero who grows up on her journey. It is full of good moral lessons and adventures with a dragon. Highly recommend.
