Simply beautiful.

This is a Chinese based story that has the main story that also uses smaller stories or legends to tell the larger story. It is a very unique way of writing a book. It follows a girl Minli who goes on a journey to better off her family but learns through multiple characters that you should be happy with what you have and not what you wish you could have. You follow Minli and the flightless dragon on their journey together to the Old Man on the Moon to give them answers. Minli asks the Old Man on the Moon a question and she can only ask a single question.

SO cute

A very sweet story, and well worth reading.

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a well crafted, character-building novel that boasts themes of gratitude, generosity, and friendship. Grace Lin expertly weaves folklore and adventure into a story that hooked my 6, 9 and 11 year old boys.

Minli has grown up hearing her father's tales of the Old Man in the Moon and the landmarks around their home. She has also grown up observing her mother's dissatisfaction with their poverty. One day Minli decides to seek out the Old Man in the Moon to ask him how her family can find fortune. On her journey, Minli meets a variety of characters who teach her the true meaning of happiness. The story also switches to her parents who are desperately awaiting their daughter's return.

A very charming story with a very important message. Another Newbery Honor that surpasses the actual winner for the year.

P.S. Would make a nice read aloud.

I legit almost cried because I couldn't remember the tile of this book and I wanted to read it again so bad. It's so goooooooooood.
This book was the embodiment of everything I love about Chinese folktales combined with the most amazing fantasy fairytale-esque story.
I genuinely don't think there is a book that will compare to this book specifically. Yes, there are many other amazing books out there, but ✨this one✨

If you havent already read this, do yourself a favor and read it. (please i am begging you, this book is a amazing)

This book grew on me. The stories within a story drove me a bit nuts.

This was a fun fantasy story based on some Chinese folktales mixed with the author's own imaginations.

This a beautiful compelling story. I love how the author strung together many stories into one overall stories. This a must read for kids and adults!
