This a beautiful compelling story. I love how the author strung together many stories into one overall stories. This a must read for kids and adults!

Beautiful, stunning, gorgeous. I loved this book. It reminded me of the Native American stories my grandpa used to tell me when I was little. Lin masterfully weaves Chinese folklore into a magnificent fantasy. I can imagine a mother reading this to an excited, young child at night, but I also think it has adult appeal.

I read this book every year to my fifth grade class. We discuss summaries, figurative language, among other concepts. Every year the children are captivated by the story and characters. They love how everything comes together in the end. This is my favorite book to read, and my absolute favorite thing to teach every year. A great story!

One of my favorite books ❤️

Our class read this in 2011 for the MCBA and I thought It was amazing. I read the other book as well, which I really enjoyed

One of my favorite books for younger readers--but if you're not young I still really recommend it. Anyone who says you can be too old for Grace Lin is wrong. The story is really cute and the illustrations are beautiful.

I read this early in middle school, and the story honestly was one of the most memorable experiences of my fucking life. It's so mystical and beautiful and lovely and the incorporation of tradition Chinese folklore is both familiar and heartwarming. I must reread soon

Extraordinary. The kids loved it. I loved it.

i'm bouncing between 4 and 5 stars, so i'll round up on this one
wholesome, complex, and overall lovely!

This was a good read for my kids. Maybe still a bit too advance, but they definitely got some of the ideas and things going on. Probably more suitable for children 7-9 range.

Minli works out in the fields with her parents, barely making it every day. She wants to help her family so that they don't have to suffer anymore. Her father reads to her every night, talking about the Old Man of the Moon. She believes that the Old Man can help her family and so one night, she leaves a note and leaves.

Along her route, she discovers a talking fish that helps her. She'll meet a dragon that will help her get to the final route and through the town to find the Old Man. Her family will go out looking for her to bring her back. A big adventure for a young child.
