Great little story about family. Pretty simple though lots of different stories and characters to follow. A great middle grade book!

I cannot believe this has taken me this long to get to this book. It was fantastic and now I need to own this!
I read this for a class, and holy crap, I loved it. I think it's the best book of any genre for any age that I read this year. I stayed up way too late one night to finish it because I couldn't wait to find out what happens to Minli and her family. When I was done, I immediately started trying to think of little girls I could send a copy to. If I'd read it when I was young, Minli, bright, funny, and adventurous, would have been one of my favorite characters. Highly, highly recommended.
I absolutely loved this book. I found the story enchanting and the characters charming.
When I first saw the title of this book and the cover art, I assumed I wouldn't enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it. The magic and fairytale that is subtly written into the story is refreshing compared to the typical fairytales that I'm used to. I thought Grace Lin did a great job of keeping the book interesting without using a ton of negative twists and turns. Following Minli on her journey to find the Old Man of the Moon kept me intrigued through the whole thing because I never knew what to expect next.
I listened to this audio book and very much enjoyed the set up to share all the folk tales while the main character traveled to the man of the moon.
this was an unbelievably magical and beautiful story. The artwork, the many folktales woven throughout, the many lessons taught throughout the book, the story itself, it was all just brilliant. I became captivated and found myself gasping at the revelations and fell in love with Minli and Dragon and their grand adventure. I also very much enjoyed the inclusion of questions about the book found in the back, and as a future educator I will most definitely be including this book in my lessons. It was such a treat and truly a splendid, wonderful journey.

“Fortune was not a house full of gold and jade, but something much more. Something she already had and did not need to change.”
I have such a fun time reading this book. I think this is the first time I read so many folklore references in one book. Reading this book, following the storyline and seeing how every folklore really ties in with the current story that happens in the book is so amazing. it shows how smart the author is. the middle-grade aspect and the children's interaction with people, nature and animals are so wholesome and cosy. Every scene in this book teaches something to its reader.
The one important thing I learned from this book is how to be more grateful. and how to apply it in daily life. I love how so important and fun this book is.
