A very easy to read and enjoyable fantasy based loosely / inspired by in Chinese folktales. Many small surprises in the journey with each challenge resolved quickly. Lovely story and very satisfying.

This book was amazing. My third graders absolutely loved it. Even I loved it and hope to read it again many times in my life. We love the artwork and the whole story was beautiful, but we loved how the whole story was a story was in a story with an a story. There were many layers to the onion you could say. And we couldn’t wait to see how it all came together.

Had a wonderful time reading this book nightly to my 8 and 6 year old. We couldn't wait to find out what would happened to Minli next. An enchanting tale about family, fortune, kings, goldfish, dragons, monkeys, magistrates and the Man of the Moon. A book created by stories within the story. This book really kept my kids on their toes as they had to track the many interesting characters and their interwoven story lines. It also generated many questions to clarify vocabulary used by the author. The three of us loved this book!
