I don't understand having a nonbinary love interest with a cis main character who struggles with they/them pronouns.
This is a decent book.
I enjoyed the plot and how it discussed non-binary / gender / sexuality issues in the context of work and friendship. I liked the setting in the cooking space and how it contrasted Test Kitchen precision vs stupid (but useful) Tasty videos and how SEO drives engagement. I even liked Ray, the non-binary character. But Simone, the heroine, was hard for me to like. She seemed like the very definition of a stick in the mud and I have no idea why Ray would be interested in her.

I don‘t think I‘ve ever felt so much like the exact target audience of a book. Queer romance, so much baking and every food metaphor made me giggle. The romance part felt a bit rushed at the end, after being very slow burn, but apart from that I really enjoyed this.
TJ Alexander's debut novel is, unsurprisingly, delicious.
I read the second, Chef's Choice, over the summer. I didn't realize it was a sequel, but reads easily as a standalone. My only regret is that I didn't immediately pick up this one. This book is well-written, especially for a first novel.
As is on theme for them, Alexander tackles queer and (specifically) trans issues with grace and dignity; creating both the honestly negative experiences as well as unadulterated queer joy.
Please, do yourself a favor, and read this.
