definitely would've been better if they deviated from the bon appetit saga a little more

Food themed romcoms seem to be my thing now.or maybe it's NB romcoms and the two I've really liked happend to be set in a kitchen? I don't know. Fact remains I really liked this. Ray is an absolute ray of sunshine and they are very sexy. There are not a lot of nb love interests out there but when they are I just want to lap it up.
And top surgery content? A rare treat.
Simone is a bit if a dunce though and the only thing that bothered me is how she uses her roommate for emotional labor. Even if it's consensual and has an agreed upon price - has this girl never heard of Google?
Ending felt a bit rushed so couldn't give it a full rating.

While I agree with other reviewers that Simone's narration required a lot of grace, overall I enjoyed this book. While she was, for lack of a better word, annoying at some points, Simone's heart was always in the right place. And once Ray came out to them, she was their staunchiest defender. I mean my goodness, the way she was willing to go in on everyone behind them not respecting Ray's name and pronouns was sweet to read. Yes there were missteps on her end but she earnestly wanted to correct herself and be better.

It was a bit frustrating how oblivious they were to each other and the blooming feelings. I felt there were more than a few instances where, if nothing else, Ray would have picked up on vibes but in their defense they could have just seen Simone acting as a good ally. But man...and this is a slooooooow burn y'all so be forewarned in case you're one who enjoys faster paced romances.

And Ray was an amazing love interest, but weren't without their own flaws. Both characters were very human and I appreciated that.

Still, I liked it and woud recommend and re-read. Yes there are CW/TW for deadnaming, transphobia, homophobia, and everything you would expect from close-minded people. But the balance of good allies were amazing as well. Can't wait to erad more from this author.

This book and I just didn't click. I could not stand the main character Simone and throughout the whole book I didn't feel any chemistry between her and Ray. The only good thing about this book are all the food descriptions, everything else is meh. And I didn't appreciate that the main conflict of the book revolved around the love interest being non-binary. I do appreciate the representation but I wish it weren't used as a plot device.

Won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. Very cute and modern love story. The main character seemed stiff at the beginning and the love interest made her more likeable. Loved the food descriptions!

DID NOT FINISH

Something about the writing style that I wasn’t connecting with from the beginning.
