the style and characters of this book were so lovely to read, i felt like i was watching a b dylan hollis video. food as a love language is a really special thing to me, and i love how passionate simone was about cooking. ray was such a good character, their gender journey felt very accurate to me and i loved to read about what was depicted of their transition and how they were described in being the romantic hero. the book is extremely slow burn but i ended up liking that.
some bits kind of irked me though like the idea of treating friendship as emotional labour (beyond explaining trans stuff that just felt weird). also it was uncomfortable for me as a nonbinary person to read about a cis person learning about gender 101, and having the major transphobic conflict viewed through her eyes. i appreciate books that inform cis people about being nonbinary, just personally find it hard to read.
overall i really enjoyed the vibes and the found family, and i'm really looking forward to the next book especially as it's T4T!!
