A harrowing post-apocalyptic book centred around a group of women confined underground in a cage overlooked by male guards.
With no memory of her past, and written in first person, the narrator is the youngest of the group and her view of her world is well portrayed.
The plot was simple but repetitive, and character-driven.
As an audiobook this was well read.

Reading this was such a unique experience. So much of the mystery is left unsolved as it just - didn’t matter
The same frustrations the protagonist had with other women not sharing knowledge was paralleled in the readers interaction with the author
But truly, it didn’t matter. The exploration of humanity, of womanhood and of society- truly unlike any other science fiction I’ve read
The afterword is a must-read.

Well, this was definitely distinct and memorable. I'm admittedly experiencing some Jamie-style indignation at the book never explaining what caused this apocalyptic scenario, but I understand that that isn't the point.
Gonna need to keep processing this one for a while; it raises interesting questions about the meaning of life. I appreciated our narrator's relishing of the pleasures of solitude.

A testimony to uncertainty and the human pursuit of answers. I Who Have Never Known Men is a completely heartbreaking, often frustrating, yet entirely inquisitive story with far more questions than it has answers. I will be thinking of this book for a very long time and cannot recommend it enough.

I had a lot of thoughts that came up whilst reading this book about our current way of existence and the type of people we would be without the things that we see as normal. The sci fi part is only just the backdrop of the book which I both liked and disliked. The sci fi lover in me wanted to find out more about the world so was therefore left a little unsatisfied but I think the ending makes sense for what this story was.
