This was a fun lighthearted romcom, all the fluff I needed in my life! I’m a sucker for all things fake dating and this was no different. I really loved the action at the end, where I finally believed she was actually a real bodyguard. I hated the epilogue though—took away the fun of imagining what happens next.

Thank you to St. Martins Press and NetGalley

I’ve really enjoyed Katherine Center’s recent releases so when I heard her newest one would be a flipped bodyguard situation, I was sold

I did enjoy each character had some emotional growth here and it was a cute rom com, it isn’t my favorite from her.

Sadly, the chemistry wasn’t always believable between Hannah and Jake like it has been between other characters in her past books. Additionally, the ending and final conflict was a bit ridiculous and came out of absolutely nowhere.

The ending combined with the epilogue full of rhetorical questions had me rolling my eyes and knocking this down a star.

Ok would it have been better with some spice? Sure. But this was SO CUTE. It made me laugh, it made me cry. I loved it, and look forward to reading more of the author’s work!

Taylor swift songs, there are so many but this is “glitch”, “wildest dreams (TV)” and “call it what you want” if I’ve ever heard it. I KNOW RIGHT.

This is for the EMILY HENRY GIRLIES!!! RUN to get this book rn!! I have no idea how this is not one of the most popular books right now, because it deserves to be EVERYWHERE. Celebrity fake relationship, she’s his bodyguard who was to pretend to be his gf so his sick mom won”t worry about his safety. I just can’t explain how much you need to read this. The sweetness, the BANTER, the character growth and development, mental health, grief, and just the absolute girl boss that is Hannah Brooks. There is also such an interesting and funny plot with some action and suspense that makes it absolutely amazing. This puts every other celebrity romance to SHAME. Unquestionably top tier, INSTANT 5 stars. Again, I’m pretty reluctant to give 5 stars but this was a no-brainer. This book makes my heart so happy. I am shocked, I am flabbergasted, I am in awe of how much I absolutely devoured this book. You will be addicted from the very beginning. I listened to it on audiobook, but I’m ordered it before I finished the book. The absolute CHOKEHOLD this book has on me, it has my heart beating so fast waiting for them to get together. I’m absolutely hooked. Screaming crying throwing up. This is so much more than a Romcom, please read this, you won’t regret it.

Age rating: 13+ (adult characters but fairly “closed door”)

Description: enforced protection agent (aka bodyguard) Hannah Brooks is forced to take an assignment protecting mega action-film star Jack Stapleton after being dumped by her boyfriend/co-worker, Robbie, the night after her mother’s funeral. Except, there is a twist. Jack is visiting home and his mother who is having surgery to remove her tumor and doesn’t want to worry her by visibly having a bodyguard with him because of his stalker. So, he stipulates that his bodyguard has to pretend to be his girlfriend in front of his family. Hannah Brooks is hesitant to cross that line, because she never gets close to the primary (her client), but, she is forcefully persuaded by her boss to take the assignment. When his mother gets out of surgery, her one request is that Jack and his girlfriend stay at their ranch for four weeks until thanksgiving. Hannah is forced to spend 24 hours a day with this actor who she still think is a total jerk… until he isn’t. She starts to get to know Jack, and he starts to get to know her, and she starts to rethink all that she thought about him. This celebrity fake-dating Romcom set on a ranch in Texas will be sure to give you all of the banter, warm fuzzies, and heart warming you didn’t know you needed.

If there's one thing that makes me frustrated, it's when I can see the potential of a storyline or a character pairing and the book just doesn't hit it for whatever reason. I'm hoping it's not just Katherine Center's writing, but there were so many odd choices in the style and structure that I couldn't get behind. The tone is all off, with lots of comedic moments and banter but the backstories of both our leads are so steeped in grief and tragedy that I felt jerked between these two moods. Secondly, for a rom-com, there's nearly zero moments of sexual tension, and a lot of Hannah and Jack's relationship occurs during the epilogue. I loved their dynamic, and just wanted more scenes of them together and less of the weird asides to the reader. It's cute, and a good beginner romance, but it was missing a lot of elements for me, personally
