Ok would it have been better with some spice? Sure. But this was SO CUTE. It made me laugh, it made me cry. I loved it, and look forward to reading more of the author’s work!

This is for the EMILY HENRY GIRLIES!!! RUN to get this book rn!! I have no idea how this is not one of the most popular books right now, because it deserves to be EVERYWHERE. Celebrity fake relationship, she’s his bodyguard who was to pretend to be his gf so his sick mom won”t worry about his safety. I just can’t explain how much you need to read this. The sweetness, the BANTER, the character growth and development, mental health, grief, and just the absolute girl boss that is Hannah Brooks. There is also such an interesting and funny plot with some action and suspense that makes it absolutely amazing. This puts every other celebrity romance to SHAME. Unquestionably top tier, INSTANT 5 stars. Again, I’m pretty reluctant to give 5 stars but this was a no-brainer. This book makes my heart so happy. I am shocked, I am flabbergasted, I am in awe of how much I absolutely devoured this book. You will be addicted from the very beginning. I listened to it on audiobook, but I’m ordered it before I finished the book. The absolute CHOKEHOLD this book has on me, it has my heart beating so fast waiting for them to get together. I’m absolutely hooked. Screaming crying throwing up. This is so much more than a Romcom, please read this, you won’t regret it.
Age rating: 13+ (adult characters but fairly “closed door”)
Description: enforced protection agent (aka bodyguard) Hannah Brooks is forced to take an assignment protecting mega action-film star Jack Stapleton after being dumped by her boyfriend/co-worker, Robbie, the night after her mother’s funeral. Except, there is a twist. Jack is visiting home and his mother who is having surgery to remove her tumor and doesn’t want to worry her by visibly having a bodyguard with him because of his stalker. So, he stipulates that his bodyguard has to pretend to be his girlfriend in front of his family. Hannah Brooks is hesitant to cross that line, because she never gets close to the primary (her client), but, she is forcefully persuaded by her boss to take the assignment. When his mother gets out of surgery, her one request is that Jack and his girlfriend stay at their ranch for four weeks until thanksgiving. Hannah is forced to spend 24 hours a day with this actor who she still think is a total jerk… until he isn’t. She starts to get to know Jack, and he starts to get to know her, and she starts to rethink all that she thought about him. This celebrity fake-dating Romcom set on a ranch in Texas will be sure to give you all of the banter, warm fuzzies, and heart warming you didn’t know you needed.

Moderate: Stalking, Grief, and Cancer
The hero has stalkers who are generally more nuisance than threatening but it is a consistent plot line. The hero also punishes himself for the death of his younger brother who died in a car wreck with him. The mother has cancer and that's what brings the hero back home and he lives home while she recovers. It is not graphic.meredith_williams_'s review against another edition

Hannah is an Executive Protection Specialist who loves her job and has no time for love. Jack is a world famous movie star who wants to hide his minor stalker situation from his ailing mother. Cue a fake dating scheme that may just turn out to be real after all.
This book was a total and complete delight. I have loved Katherine Center since I read Things You Save in a Fire (the book that got me into romance as a genre!) so this has been one of my most-anticipated reads of the summer, and it did not let me down in the slightest. The Bodyguard is everything you want in a romantic comedy—it’s sweet, tender, heart-melting, and genuinely funny, with two fantastic leads (Jack Stapleton is my newest book boyfriend for sure) and a host of fun secondary characters to boot. And, fake dating and forced proximity are two of my absolute favorite tropes, so add that in to a relationship that felt organic and genuine? I could eat it with a spoon. If you are craving an amazing, cinematic, and totally engaging romance novel, go grab this one.
Oh, and “I wasn’t hitting golf balls” is gonna live rent free in my head FOREVER. (IYKYK)
Recommended for anyone, but especially if you like: funny and wholesome rom-coms; fake dating/forced proximity tropes; rural ranch settings
CW: Death of a loved one; cancer; domestic violence; alcoholism; stalking; gun violence; suicidal ideation/thoughts.
