I am seriously flying through this series, immediately listening to the audiobooks as soon as the holds come in from the library (shoutout to Libby and my local libraries)!! This book felt better paced than the last one for me and the suspense and mystery surrounding the deaths developed well. Sara and Jeffrey's relationship continues to develop. There is some back and forth that happens throughout, especially as this case hits home for Sara from the beginning. Overall though, I'm liking their character development and look forward to seeing their relationship grow. I honestly do not know how to feel about Lena in this book. She has gone through so much, more than any of the other main characters or ensemble cast in the series. She has a lot of trauma to heal from and I do hope she is able to, but in this book there were a lot moments where I again questioned her choices. I don't think there is one right way to heal from traumatic events of course, and I am glad that Slaughter writes Lena as such a flawed character, but I do hope that she is able to work through some of it in the next books. As always this book is dark and violent, but it does make for a page turning thriller. I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes next!
