“Play iterated games. All the returns in life, whether in wealth, relationships, or knowledge, come from compound interest.”

This book is filled with pieces of wisdom. For someone like me who is new to Naval Ravikant, this was a brilliant compilation of all the valuable wisdom he has shared with the world, short and crisp. It was quite comprehensive as well dealing with topics from from building wealth and judgement to philosophy and science. It felt very refreshing to read this, I'm not really a self-help book kind of person but I picked this up because it's really short. It felt unique in the sense, it wasn't very repetitive from the other books/interviews and a lot of the statements hit point blank, although the statements were a bit repetitive internally which I guess is the usual format for self help. I would recommend this book to everyone, it's not just about building a business, it's a lot about building your identity and life for yourself.

“The hardest thing is not doing what you want—it’s knowing what you want.”

“Earn with your mind, not your time.”

“Memory and identity are burdens from the past preventing us from living freely in the present.”

“When working, surround yourself with people more successful than you.”

This book is full of quotable lines, not just limited to the ones I or others have added.

4.0

This was initially hard to read because of the lack of structure of the contents. The author as well does not go deeper into the topics but rather just scratches the surface.
Nevertheless, I very much enjoyed the little nuggets of wisdom of Naval and will probably keep this book as reference material for some daily inspiration.

I don't agree with everything Naval says (most of the stuff he says is pretty good though), and I feel like there are definitely some subjective biases he has; but the book really made me think (and change the way I think).

4.5 stars. Great read (listen) for me. Naval is a brilliant mind who has the ability to distill life’s most challenging topics to digestible bits of advice.

Half star deduction because it peeved me when certain statements were repeated multiple times in a row.

I saw this book on a bunch of recommended lists, so I finally gave it a try... but, why? This is literally a bunch of tweets by the "author" compiled into book form, interspersed with some synthetic interviews to expand on some points. Yes, there is some useful life info here, but nothing that one cannot pick up from original sources much better. I guess this is an accessible entry point to this sort of thought for people who are used to getting their knowledge in pithy, bite sized quotes. Not recommended.

It took me a while to finish this book, but it was actually a great book. It’s a collection of thoughts and quotes from Naval Ravikant, collated and grouped into a number of overarching themes. Essentially, I saw this as a cheat sheet for how to live and rich and fulfilling life. Lots of highlights from this one to ponder over.

“Don’t take yourself so seriously. We are just monkeys with a plan.”

Great book. Main points:

Leverage in every aspect of life is key to success. Leveraging your time your money your relationships.

The best workout you can do is the one that you love doing everyday.

Find something that you love to do and that's what you should be doing with your work life. It's play to you, but is work to somebody else. They will never be able to keep up with you since they can't play 16 hours a day

Cuz most people are intimidated by math, and cannot critique it. They are easily bought into ideas that are backed by math or pseudoscience.

A calm mind, a fit body, and a house full of love. These things cannot be bought, they must be earned

Three big things in life are wealth health and happiness. We pursue them in this order. But it should be in reverse

All screen type activities lead to unhappiness, all non-screen activities lead to happiness

It's the news job to make you anxious and angry

To be successful with wim hof, try and use his breathing method which is hyperventilating to increase the oxygen and core temperature in your body before stepping into the cold shower for 2 minutes

That makes you satiated, sugar makes you hungry. Sugar overrides the fat satiation. Try to avoid foods that contain both sugar and fat at the same time

With meditation, 90% of our thoughts are fear based. Once you realize that it's just a fear, the fear goes away without even trying. For example, that guy over there is having a bad hair day haha. I use that comment to make me feel better about myself and my own hair, because I'm losing my hair.

Your mind is like an out of control monkey throwing feces against the wall. A complete mad person that you have no control over. Meditation is not trying to control your mind, it's realizing that your mind is uncontrollable and crazy. This makes you want to distance yourself from your own mind

Create systems, and not goals. Goals are temporary and don't necessarily create any habits. Systems allow you to be successful in many different settings and universes and timelines and take more of the luck out of being successful

There are no adults, everyone is making it up as they go along

Before you lie to another person, you must at first lie to yourself

If you can't see yourself working with someone for your whole life, don't work with them for even a whole day

Praise specifically, criticize generally
