Much better than the first. The first was all setup, I blew through this and glad I picked it up. It was a fun read.

Like the first book, this moved pretty slow. I also had a copy of the audiobook which helped me keep moving through the book (chapters are literally about an hour long). I really enjoyed it, I love the characters and their journeys. I just wish more had happened. It felt at times like all I was reading was discussions about what to do and what was happening. Don’t get me wrong, they are still fun conversations, it was just a lot at times. I also definitely thought this was just a duology - I need the third book NOWWW

Love Cassie so much and enjoyed this a lot. I still
think Conor should have died in the last book. I think that Cassie is often in love with her own characters, which isn’t a sin, but Conor is not as fascinating and magnetic as she thinks he  is (especially now that he’s Serious Lovelorn Leader Conor) so it’s hard to relate to Kel and Lin’s fascination with him.

I did see a lot of the surprises coming,
including Asher’s reveal,
but
Prosper Beck’s reveal
did clock me and I loved it. Looking forward to the next book.

It seemed to be building to something for the entire book, only to find out the event being built towards will be book three. So in a way, it felt like a long filler book with very slow and intentional moving pieces into place so book three can take off.

I liked the second part of this series just as much as the first! the characters became more complex, and I got a better sense of their motives. the romantic relationships and overall character dynamics were so well written, and the world-building was just as beautiful as in Sword Catcher! the only thing I kept thinking at times was: if these people had just opened their mouths, the story would've gone quite differently... but I loved the ending and can't wait for the next part!
