A friend kept telling me to read this for months, and when I was scrolling through books to spend my kobo points on it came up, so it seemed like the obvious choice.
I loved this so much. Very quickly after starting, I developed a mental image of Mona and the city she lives in. The whimsy of magic in this world being of all kinds, and unusually niche at times, made this oddly more relatable than many fantasy novels focused on magic.
The formatting of the ebook and my choice of font added to the humour in places, but even without Atkinson Hyperlegible and whatever the size and weight is, I'm fairly sure it would be equally funny. The story also made me cry, towards the end.
It's a children's book - Mona is 14, so I guess it's broadly aimed at that kind of reading age - but it's a kid's book in the way that The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents is. The tailspin I just got into about possessive apostrophes there has really thrown my train of thought, so I'll end here.

This book is the kind of thing you want to read when you need something just cozy. I picked this up after ready something heavy with moral and societal debate. It was an easy read, didn't make you think to hard, and was simply entertaining. I recommended this book to several people even before finishing it because who doesn't want to read about a wizard with a homicidal sourdough starter for a familiar? I immediately started another book by T. Kingfisher and will continue to reach for their books.
