Compared to other cozy fantasy books would say it falls a bit lower on my scale but it was a fun read. I couldn’t get over Mona being 14. Hope her new title gets her unlimited mental health resources.

Same complaint I had with Legends and Lattes: premise is fun and promising; execution is lacking. Very very mild and vague spoilers follow (I would hesitate to even call them spoilers but a spoiler purist might call them spoilers so)

There were zero stakes or suspense in this book, and the whimsical tone of the narration, although entertaining, further contributed to the feeling that I don't need to take any story beats seriously because it'll all be totally fine in the end.

The xenophobia was,,, textbook Fictional Xenophobia. Truly the laziest, most cursory way to depict prejudice and you see it all the time in fantasy and science fiction. Just wanted to complain about it, I guess.
