Solid 4 stars. It would have been a 5 star read but there really wasn't any ACTIVE chemistry. The romance was kind of bleh compared to the story, which was pretty interesting.
okay i ADORED this but i wish there was an epilogue :/
Spice: 2/5
Tropes: Mafia, Billionaire, Fake Relationship/ Fiancé, One Bed
Main Characters: Asher and Lucy
Available on KINDLE UNLIMITED
Lucy and her new college roommate decide to check out a popular club that is owned by the notorious Asher Black. Lucy goes outside to get some air and meets a handsome stranger and decides to throw caution to the wind and hook up with him. When he gets a call and leaves without a word she decides to head inside and leave. When leaving she sees a couple arguing and hides in the bathroom and then calls the cops when she thinks it’s escalating. Later that night she finds out she called the cops on the Romano Family and the mysterious guy she kissed was Asher. After looking in to her, Asher approaches her with a deal of a life time. Be his fake fiancé, and in return he can set her up with a job after grad, a house, payment etc.
This is the authors debut novel and one mafia story that stuck with me. I loved the journey while reading this and watching Asher and Lucy learn to live with each other and support each other. This is a slow burn with lots of tension, cute moments and a bit of a twist. Not super heavy on the mafia aspect since Asher was a fixer that’s trying to focus on his legal business ventures. His backstory and found family is great and Lucy is just the sassy and sweet to Ashers dark that helps them both succeed.

I’m only reviewing this because I promised myself I would do it for every book I read this year.
I’m usually a sucker for Mafia books but this one was sooo disappointing I didn’t even want to finish it. But I did because I’m weird and feel guilty when I don’t.
I did not like the MC at all and honestly can’t even remember her name. Her “guard” was honestly my favorite person in the book.

I stayed up until 3am reading this book because I couldn't put it down. So of the writing needs a little touch up but I really enjoyed what I read. I wish there was more action with Asher since he is supposed to be this scary mafia man. All in all I really love the connection between the Lucy and Asher and I am happy it this novel didn't present their romance as love at first site. It would have been really amazing if the writing would show more instead of just telling what the character was doing.

I loved Devious Lies and decided to pick this up when I saw it advertised on Kindle Unlimited.
I don't understand a lot of the negative reviews. Although it wasn't your typical mafia romance, it was a sweet, slow burn with fantastic banter.
Asher is the perfect inscrutable, enigmatic hero. Lucy is a snarky, self-sufficient heroine who reluctantly agrees to their fake marriage. She's attracted to him against her better judgment. His shady past is a definite turn-off, even though it's a small slice of who he is.
Asher protects those he cares for. It motivates his every action, and because of his formidable intellect and unique skills, he is always ten steps ahead. Lucy is the perfect solution to his ruthless image problem, but she gets under his skin.
Soon, they're defending and protecting each other. What their relationship means and whether or not everything is real or pretend becomes the one burning question that haunts their sleepless nights.
