Nice read, loved both of the characters it had me laughing out loud and loved the banter between them, its a really nice romance.
dark medium-paced

Lucy is just a normal college girl who is studying and trying to make a future for herself. Until she witnesses something and reports it to the police not knowing she is dealing with a known mob member. He would have killed her for it, but instead, he offers her a deal that she can't refuse.

I really enjoyed this story far more than I thought I would. Especially with the way the beginning started. I won't divulge what I'm speaking of because I firmly believe in letting the people read the books themselves. Let's just say It made me think that the story was going to go a certain way. I kept reading and I'm glad I did. My thoughts on where it would go were so wrong.

I can't really say that I see anything wrong with this book. I would have liked to see some chapters from Asher's point of view just because. I think I'd of also liked more information on what happened to certain characters at the end of the book. I also wish it had been a little longer.

This has been a very uniquely told story. I am impressed with how the author could take a very popular topic and genre and make it entirely their own. The narrator did a fantastic job as well. I fully recommend this book. Be prepared to be engrossed fully. I read the first half in one sitting!

I went into this book expecting to hate it. Usually books recommended to me by Facebook ads and available to read for free on Kindle have the quality and style of a 13 year old girl writing smut on a roleplay forum.

I'm not gonna lie -- the author's forward of chiding book thieves left a bad first impression, and the first two or three chapters were rough. After that though? I was pleasantly surprised! The writing improved a lot after it's shaky start and the author found their voice. There were a few "wrong word" moments (like "apartment" when it should have been "apart"), but that is something the editor should've caught.

I've seen some other reviewers complaining that Lucy is a mary-sue and the plot is generic romance novel stock. But I feel like they missed how the author took common tropes and was actively trying to subvert them. Lucy's tragic backstory wasn't just garbage mentioned in a boring monologue and used to manufacture drama, nor did she wail and cry about her awful terrible life to force the love interest to take care of her. She actually had a personality, was self aware of her behavior, and grew over the course of the book. Likewise, her best friend wasn't just "obnoxious sex crazed fake friend" who secretly hated her and want to destroy her. They had a genuine and respectful female relationship. The love interest, Asher, also was not the typical rapey rogue that tends to get featured in these "alpha male" stories. Were the executions always perfect? No. But I really appreciate what the author was trying to do with the story.

All that said, I have an automatic bias against first person perspective. Lucy, thankfully, was enjoyable to be in the headspace of, but I feel like there could've been a ton more fun story elements had this been written with more than one point of view. I would've loved to get to know all of the characters better. The sex scenes were fun even if some of the sex-talk dialog made me cringe. I enjoyed the story a lot (both with some giggles and a even tearful crying moment) but there's nothing uniquely special about it that'll make it stand out in my mind against the sea of content I consume.

I am definitely going to read more books by this author, though. I feel she is going to get better and better with every book she writes, so I'm looking forward to the future hottie I fall in love with.

3.7 / at times it gets confusing because there are some cuts in time without warning and the main character rambles often but it was pretty good

The onlyyyy reason this got 4 stars is because the ending was completely rushed. Like 4 different discoveries happened in the last 50 pages and I wish more time was spent flushing them out. Besides that it was a really cute story, not actually spicy, but I’m a sucker for a romance regardless so I enjoyed it a LOT still
