3.5 Great read. These types of books are my favorite to read and it didn't disappoint. Although not necessary, I would have liked to know Lucy's real name.

Just did a re-read, and still love this story so much. Parker has a fresh and addictive take on mafia romance- and I am here for it! Excellent chemistry, engaging plot, emotional and psychological intensity, and riveting steam. My favorite book of hers!

Asher & Lucy: No Where Near A Match

Well, this is my first DNF of 2023. I tried very hard with this story. At 48%, I couldn’t take any more. This plot had potential but the story was preposterous.

I found Lucy to be very silly, immature, and draining. I could stand to be trapped in her brain any longer! She annoyed the f*ck out of me and her background story has too many holes and makes absolutely no sense. For someone who had such a hard life as hers, I’d have thought she had more sense and backbone. She possessed neither.

Asher had so much potential to be a bad-ass Alphahero but he fell flat. He wasn’t threatening to say the least and ended up being dragged into Lucy’s silly bubble and acting just as flakey as she.

These two had no sexual chemistry and this book read more like a parody than a romance. I’m done.

If I recommend anything it’s that you don’t waste your time in this one.

Just the type of mafia romance book I wanted to sink my teeth into. A great heroine, lots of good tension and of course a mafia fixer.

OK that was better than expected

No really I almost put this back after the alleyway scene. It felt a little off. But I was bored and having a really bad book slump. Glad I kept going

5 stars for Asher Black by Parker S Huntington. This is book 1 in Five Syndicates Series. Lucy is sees something she shouldn’t have seen and then calls the cops, little does she know she is calling the cops on Asher Black a member of the mob. What is she gonna do when she learns she owes Asher a favor. Now she is Asher’s fake fiancé and has to deal with everything that entails. I do not wanna say to much and spoil the suspense on what is to happen , but I am going to say that this book kept me guessing on what was to come. I absolutely loved the story and can’t wait to check out more from this author.

Decent read!

Couple of little things that bugged me (spoilers):

There is huge talk about the mafia, and they play such a minor role in the book. Like...the protagonist who is hiring people to kill them...is simply a corporate guy who wants to be CEO. Just seems like a huge reach.

Another thing was that there was a bit too much descriptions. Even simple things were being explained which I feel didn't need to be.

Third...literally every single blonde woman in the book was the stereotypical gold digger who looks down their nose at the main heroine. The rich friend she makes is the exact opposite and is of course...brunette. This stereotype of feminine and blonde women being antagonists is heavily overused. Felt a hit like reading a teen wattpad story at times.

Next...for a woman who is supposed to be one of the smartest and is attending the best school in the country...it doesn't really seem like it. Her education is pushed to the background, and she comes off childish sometimes in the way she talks to people. Some things had me cringing at times.

And finally...all that build up, and the sex was fast and over with pretty quickly. It seemed very distant, like a hook up, rather than sex with someone you're supposed to love.

...

I know I've made a lot of complaints haha. The story lacks in some areas, again reminding me of a wattpad story. But...

Overall it was still a decent and fast read. I did enjoy it.

This steamy mafia romance is witty, and charming with a bit of suspense. Lucy had a heartrending childhood that has made her smart, independent, and brave. She is a college student at a prestigious college when she meets the dangerous, sexy Asher Black. Due to a misunderstanding, she calls the police on him and his club. She is able to hide her identity so they don't know it was her. It took awhile but Asher was able to find her. Asher is not only a mafia fixer, he is a brilliant entrepreneur. After all his searching for Lucy, he realizes she is the only person he can trust to be his fake fiance to protect his company. Asher was an enigma that was hard to pin down. He worked for the mafia, was an expert at intimidation, yet he was so sweet and swoony. Lucy thought he was going to kill her at the beginning, but the more she learned of him, the safer she felt. They were great together when they could let loose and be young together. I really cracked up at Lucy's inner rambling dialog.
Narrator, Lacy Laurel, does a terrific job capturing each characters personality. Her voice changes were distinct and her intonations make you feel the full range of Asher and Lucy's emotions.
I enjoyed this was heart pounding, funny, and sexy romance.
