I am upset because I have really struggled in what to rate this book 3 or 4 stars. I really enjoyed the book. I saw other people's reviews and they complained that it was a hard read and I did not think so at all. I was turning pages fast. I looked forward to reading it. The storyline was good and writing was fantastic. There is really only one downfall to the book and that is the characters did not seem themselves. Luke seemed to be a then a Jedi. I mean during war when people are getting slaughtered he says dont kill if you dont have to. While I agree with that philosophy not really a good pep talk during war. Leia seemed like she was on the bachelorette. Making out with both guys. Acting like she liked playing games with both (eyes rolling). Han seemed like a wussy (for a lack of a better turn). He basically drools over Leia except at a couple points of the story, which I think the lines were taken directly out of the movies. Now a chunk of that that review was bad, but really I did enjoy the book.

Do I suggest it? Well...I dont know. There are definitely better star wars EU books out there. This is the one where Han and Leia get married. I think it is referenced about in other stories. So if you want to know what happens then read it. I don't think that you will regret it.

[Reread] I've always enjoyed this book in the past but this time I was struck by how annoying Isoldor is, how Han always seems to be slightly out of character ... but as always how amazing Leia is. Love the witches of Dathomir - incredible women!

I normally don't read many Star Wars novels. I've read Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire series, but that's about it. I am a huge Star Wars fan and have been for over 20 years. I thought it might be time to branch out and read some other novels by different authors. The Courtship of Princess Leia was entertaining, to be sure, and it took the monotony out of my weekly bus ride into the city. It certainly felt like Star Wars to a certain degree, but some of the characterization seemed off. Luke seemed befuddled. Han acted like a teenager, and Leia just came across as disinterested in everything throughout the entire novel. Hapes and Dathomir were interesting. I feel as though an entire novel could have been written around Augwynne and her sisters. As interesting as the new characters were, they raised some questions and looming plot holes. If the Nightsisters were so powerful, wouldn't the Emperor have tapped their power in the past? Why didn't Hapes help against the Empire before? If the Nightsisters were more in number and more powerful than the other sisters, why hadn't they destroyed them years ago? These questions have all been touched on by other reviewers, but I feel the questions are pertinent enough to be repeated. Another thing that bothered me: you don't RIDE rancors. Just, no. This novel was entertaining, and felt within the vein of the Star Wars universe, and may have filled the gap between Jedi and Heir, but that's about it.

I've seen a lot of reviews comparing this book to fan fiction. I think that's really doing an injustice to authors of fan fiction.

This wasn't as fun to me. I read it the first time as a 12-year-old. Then, it was exciting and romantic. Now, I don't think the characterizations are at all accurate. Han and Leia seem at turns wooden and sentimental. Luke is the only one who makes any sense. Still fun to read, but definitely not the best Star Wars EU book out there.

My only real complaint about this book is some of the dialogue that happens between Leia and Han, as well as a bit from Luke. Some of it's a bit corny and are not things you would expect to hear come out of their mouths. Other than that the story is pretty good and I rather enjoyed it. Leia is being courted by a prince of a star system they want to join the New Republic. This gets Han pretty jealous, so he kidnaps Leia and heads for a planet he won in a card game to impress her. They run into the Warlord Zsinj and some force sensitive witches down on the planet. Good stuff.
If you are reading in chronological event order like I am, this gives a pretty anti-climactic end to the warlord, who had been the prime antagonist during the last few books of the X-Wing series. But it is still a worthy read.

I started this book for the Hapes matriarchs and the Nightsister witches, but I finished because it's just an absolute blast to read! Way fun
