3.5 stars.

High fantasy. I liked the concept of the bells used to bind dead. I also liked his writing, although sometimes there were too much details that it gets a bit dragging. I had to skip some paragraphs once I got the gist of the scene.

I appreciated Garth Nix' writing toward the end when he circled back to Wyverly College along with Colonel Horyse. It was a good introduction of characters and elements (Paper plane) from the beginning and then used again in the final battle.

4.5⭐ to be exact. It started slow for the first quarter, and gradually faster. But definitely from the end of chapter 20, i was totally hooked.

Amazing high fantasy read! World-building is great and I loved the take on Death and necromancy. Will definitely read the rest of the series.

It took me a while to get into this book, but as it went on the world building improved and I enjoyed the plot.
