A fun read but I’m not sure it will stick with me.
The last 20-30 pages were the best part.

This book is about Rakoff’s time working at a literary agency, and she finds out later than she perhaps should have, that the agency represents JD Salinger. It’s about her relationship with the fan-mail that Salinger gets sent, and the roundabout way that she engages with his literature. In that way it’s really about the transformative power of words and books. If you’re a Salinger fan then definitely read this, likewise if you’re interested in the literary world or the way that literature impacts our lives.

i really enjoyed this! i am a sucker for a young woman in new york, and anything to do with the world of literature, publishing, etc. is instantly interesting for me. i absolutely couldn’t stand don, and i kept waiting for joanna to break up with him… probably would’ve rated it higher if she had lol

An enjoyable read. I felt like I knew Joanna during this time period and appreciated following her daily grind, although I kept hoping she’d dump the useless boyfriend. I’m old enough to remember the time period, during which I worked in a media setting, which likely helped feed my positive experience. 4.0
