Pros:
The prose was beautiful, magical, lyrical
Amazing characters
Loved the romance and the magic which had a fairy tale quality to it
I see why this book couldn’t be a stand alone, though I see with this being the third Rebecca Ross book I‘ve read that she could easily write stand alones in easy magical worlds (she doesn’t really build up the why/how/what in her magic worlds - the magic is just there)
I think the magical setting works here better because of the folk, in the letters of enchantment series the gods weren’t enough of a good reason for the magic presence (and she sure loves the life and death counterparts)
Cons:
Slow in pacing
Sidra and Torin were much more interesting than Jack and Adaira
Didn’t really care for the conflict at the 70% mark as it dragged a bit - but loved the ending

I’m not even sure how to describe this one. It’s fantasy but it’s not. It’s a mystery/crime drama but it’s not. It’s a romance but it’s not. Whatever it is, I really liked it.
