I need to preface this by saying that I should have taken a break between the original trilogy and the rest of the saga, as well as Iron Gold and Dark Age. And because of that I fell into a slump reading this book where my interest fluctuated significantly.

This book is arguably great. The action/war/military sequences are so well done. The author continued his art of plot twists and betrayal that caught me off guard.

This book is dense. So dense. The first 200+ pages is just Darrow and Lysander and war. I didn’t feel like there was enough dialogue in this book nor was there enough of Virginia and Lyria’s POV when it came to their storylines. We got a ton of Ephraim, Darrow, and Lysander which is like fine but my ladies are consequential to the plot and their scenes wrapped up so quickly ???

I have a lot of thoughts on this book and a lot of frustrations just because it felt so cyclical to Iron Gold. I honestly feel like we could’ve combined these two books.

I did really enjoy having more insight into Pax and Electra, and Victra. I just hope that there is some HEA for the characters after this trauma and destruction.
