Not Baldacci's best book ever, but still a great on your toes book. Fast paced and I like how he ended the story. Definitely going to read the next book in the series.
A good mystery - spent the whole time trying to figure out how the storylines tied together! I love that it kept me guessing
I liked this one better than I thought I would. This is my 2nd Baldacci book, and I've enjoyed both of them. The plot was interesting and kept me guessing. The ending was unexpected.
The series as a whole keeps getting better. Plot was really good, Sean and Michelle are awesome.
3.5 stars
Not my favorite book in the series but happy with the ending.

The best of the series so far and one of the most entertaining books by Baldacci that I have read to date. He certainly created one of the more evil characters and stories I have ever read.
A good read, and a well-done audiobook. If you aren't experienced with audiobooks, this would be a good one to try.
This is my 4th King/Maxwell book, and I enjoyed it more than the previous ones. There were 2 mysteries in the book, unrelated to each other. So, you get your money's worth here. I thought the main story was very good. The full story is disclosed slowly throughout the book, and by the end, it's not at all clear who are the villains and heroes. There's the President of the US and the First Lady, along with some relatives are on one side, against some crazy guy in Alabama with a home-made cabin enclosed in steel, and a mine he uses to hold some kidnap victims. Oh, and his team killed an innocent women during one of the kidnaps. So, making him seem to be even somewhat of a good guy takes a bit of doing. I guess it's all relative in this story, though.
If you're a fan of this series, there's a little surprise at the end to keep things interesting. Nuff said.

Very thought-provoking, at least for me. Can one have compassion for a kidnapper and killer??
So, the novel begins with the kidnapping of Willa Dutton, the First Lady's niece. Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are tasked by the First Lady, Jane Cox to rescue Willa. When they begin digging into the Duttons' background, they uncover secret after secret, all of which Jane Cox wanted to keep under wraps till the end of time. Michelle Maxwell has to deal with problems of her own when she gets a call about the death of her mother and has to go back to Nashville to sort things out.
It was a good read. I really liked it. But I have to say that there was just too many things happening in this book. I wish Michelle's arc was dealt with in the previous book, Simple Genius instead of here. But other than that, I can't complain about the plot. It was very exciting. There were things that I can't believe would ever happen especially with the President of the United States and First Lady involved. But like I said before, I love King and Maxwell. That sort of clouds my judgement. :-D
Decide for yourself though. Do read!!
