Read with World of Sleuths Readalongs. Also counting this for #OurLostLibrary #Lostathon for the Audiobook, Golden Leaves, and Over 400 Pages Squares.

I liked this one much better than book 3. I again listened to a majority of this one on audiobook, but the narrator is different than the previous installments. It's a little jarring when you're used to a certain voice for a character and then it gets changed up on you. It probably wouldn't have bothered me as much if I didn't listen to them so close together. I did still enjoy listening to the narration. They started adding sound effects at the ends of chapters and during suspenseful sections, which I'm not sure I like, but I still thought the story was interesting.

It does touch on things that were brought up in book 3 and there is a separate case that I didn't quite put together why it was a part of this story, until we're told how it ties in. It also deals with some topics which could be triggering to some. I am still enjoying seeing King and Maxwell's teamwork and am looking forward to the next installment.

Another great read by Baldacci. In this 4th book of the King/Maxwell series there are two story lines going on. One of them is about Michelle Maxwell and family. The other includes the First Family and another family or two. I found both to be rich in characters and the human condition. Lots of intrigue, of course!!

Excellent read. A real page turner. This was my first Baldacci book but I think I'll be checking out more of them!

I enjoyed the book. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I definitely liked it. I kept wanting the reason behind the kidnapping to be revealed and how things fit together, but the pacing was great and I felt that keeping things hidden until the end worked great. I also liked the follow-up on everything at the end. This was my first Baldacci book in years, and now I am planning on reading others.

He always writes an enjoyable book for me so far. This is a political and murder mystery thriller that was an easy read. He always has a plot a chapter it seems like. I 19ll read all his new ones when they come out.

I liked this one. Good resolution for Michelle and her issues from the past. Less action and more mystery.

Even though this is part of a series, it works pretty well as a stand-alone novel. In fact, I didn’t even realize until I started preparing for this review that I haven’t yet read the book before it, Simple Genius. I like Sean and Michelle, friends and partners who are still trying to figure out their boundaries and what exactly they are to each other. The storyline here is one that isn’t easy to figure out on your own. I had a couple of things figured out, but the whole picture was elusive until the end. I think Baldacci does a good job of playing with the reader’s emotions… At first, I felt for the First Lady, who appears to be the long suffering wife of a Clinton-esque husband, forever cleaning up his messes. At the end, my feelings about her did a 180. In many ways, she was worse than the kidnapper. Also, Michelle comes to terms with some of her own demons, and now maybe it’s time for her to really heal. All in all, another winner from Baldacci!

Proč si to vlastně dělám?

Fast paced - this book had me hooked from the beginning!

I love how Baldacci weaves these tales, intertwining the characters lives. I mean, these books aren't happily ever after for all the characters involved, but it's fast paces, it keeps moving, my mind was constantly trying to figure it all out and I could hardly put the book down!
