I'm a simple girl : i read a book with a found family and i love it no matter how good or bad the book actually is <3
DNF. After suffering through the first book to a somewhat enjoyable ending, I'd hoped (and heard) that book 2 would grab me. I have seen Wendig's characters pop up in other Star Wars stuff and enjoyed them there. I do not enjoy Wendig's writing, though.
I may be in the minority, but the Aftermath books have been my favorite books of the new canon so far!
Good book, better than the first but it builds upon everything laid out in the first one. Excited to read the third

Life Debt improves immensely upon last years already enjoyable Aftermath. With a greatly increased scope, this story feels much larger and more involved with the rest of the Star Wars saga. Relationships between characters are well developed with both heartfelt scenes, and moments of comic relief. I never thought I'd get misty over a conversation between Chewie and Han, but Wendig managed it. Chuck also does a great job at tying together disparate parts of the universe from the comics, novels, animated series, and even a couple references to the old EU! As a longtime fan, I really appreciated these little touches and would encourage any Star Wars fan to check Life Debt out.
So much better than the first book. This is the story of the characters from the first book, but they get to work with Leia, Han and Chewy. You even get some interesting back story on the new big bad guy.
For once, a middle trilogy book that doesn't suffer the fate so many others do.
This book was so informative at filling in the gaps that exist in the canon. I can see the beginnings of the First Order from the remains of the Empire. Palpatine knew the Empire would need to transition into something else, and this was just a natural state. It makes sense to the Rise of Skywalker now, how he was always pulling the strings. The little hints of the religious extremists on Corellia, those who worship Vader, how they wear masks, all lead to Ben's transformation into Kylo Ren. It was nice to get the Liberation of Kashyyk and see Han and Chewie together.
I love this gang, this group of Imperial Hunters. I love Jas and Sinjir's relationship, how well developed it is and how they lean into each other and care for one another. I love Temmin, and knowing how he will become a great Resistance fighter pilot, and it saddens my heart to know his fate above Exegol. I love Norra and Wedge together, it is just pure and what this story needs.
I adore the little Interludes that happen throughout, showing us the different planets and people, and how the New Republic is affecting their lives. I also enjoy catching callbacks to Return of the Jedi, whenever Norra reminisces about the Battle of Endor, or Leia thinks about the Rebellion as a whole.
I miss the original Han and Leia though, the ones from Legends. This feels false to me, made up, unauthentic. I can't place it into words, but just off a little.

A solid star wars universe story. It felt like the classic Star Wars role-playing game adventure in many ways. With a couple of exceptions, the characters are likable and interesting. The classic characters who appear feel very much like the versions we are familiar with. The Interludes, which show side stories and slices of life in the galaxy shortly after the battle of Endor, are a high point of the whole series.
Shit man, this trilogy is SO GOOD and I need Empire's End yesterday, please
Ok so Sinjir totally gets a boyfriend in this book and there's also a badass genderqueer pirate (pronouns zhe/zher/zherself) who will hopefully show up again in the next book. A+ work, Chuck Wendig. These two books are queerer than some whole series and it makes my heart really happy. I am finally, explicitly included in a franchise that I love and it feels so nice. 4.5/5 stars.
